Dear Castle Hill Middle School 127 family,
Welcome back!! I hope by now your child is settled in and enjoying the new school year. This letter covers a few things that I mentioned in the summer letter, as well as a few important and new things, so please read it all.
We have seats available in our 6th grade Spanish Dual language program for students who wish to develop fluency and literacy in Spanish. This program is ideal for students who may speak Spanish but want to develop their reading and writing, or students who don’t speak Spanish and wish to learn through immersion. Please contact Ms. Seabrooks or Ms. Brooks for more information if you are interested.
We also have numerous programs and structures in place including Advisory, restorative circles, and targeted mentoring, designed to support all students in a nurturing social and emotional environment for learning. Please speak to your child’s teacher, counselor, the parent coordinator, the grade assistant principal, or myself with any questions, concerns or feedback you have about meeting the needs of your child.
By the end of this week, you should receive letters about Advisory, the cell phone policy, a syllabus and grading policy for every subject, and information about accessing Pupilpath (our online grading and communication system). If you do not see any of these letters, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher, your grade AP, or Ms. Francis, the parent coordinator, for assistance.
Please note the first PA meeting is Wednesday, September 25, at 6:30 PM. All announcements, letters and notices will also be posted on our school website, which can be found at both MS127x.com and MS127.org. In addition, our website will have links to commonly used student resources, and a general mailbox to contact the school.
Meet the Teacher night is Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 5pm-8pm. This is not individual parent-teacher conference time. See below for the agenda, by grade. Remember, you may always visit the school on Tuesdays from 2:40-3:40 to meet teachers, or contact Ms. Francis for an appointment that works for you.
· The 6th grade will have an orientation. All families will meet in the auditorium from 5pm-6pm, then visit your child’s subject grade level teacher teams according to the schedule your child will bring.
· The 7th grade will visit subject grade level teacher teams from 5-6, have a college and career overview for all families in the auditorium from 6-7, and continue to meet subject teachers from 7-8.
· The 8th grade will visit grade level teacher teams from 5-7, then have a high school admission information session from 7-8 (this session is extremely important for families to learn about the high school process).
Remember, school uniform shirts are available for purchase in person at the Kid’s Place located at 1450 Metropolitan Avenue in Parkchester ($10 per shirt), or online at schoolbasics.com/ms127/ ($9 per shirt plus $5.95 shipping for the entire order).
I am looking forward to the new school year and to seeing you all on September 19!
Harry Sherman, Principal
