Principal's Message

Dear Castle Hill Middle School Family,

I truly hope this letter finds you well!  I am happy to welcome you to a new school year.  We are excited about all the great things we have planned this year. 

We have expanded Specialized High School and Regents prep, career day and college visits, Dual Language programs and flexible IEP programs, electives in Art, Music, Theater, Fashion Design, and Aeronautics, Junior Broadway, co-ed sports programs, peer leadership and mentoring, community advocacy projects, and student council.  As you can see, we have high expectations for every student to find their voice and take ownership of their learning.

We have seats available in our 6th grade Spnish Dual language program for students who wish to develop fluency and literacy in Spanish.  This program is ideal for students who may speak Spanish but want to develop their reading and writing, or students who don't speak Spanish and wish to learn through immersion.  Please contact Ms. Seabrooks or Ms. Brooks for more information if you are interested.

We also have numerous programs and structures in place including Advisory, restorative circles, and targeted mentoring, designed to support all students in a nurturing social and emotional environment for learning.  Please speak to your child's teacher, counselor, the parent coordinator, the grade assistant principal or myself with any questions, concerns, or feedback you have about meeting the needs of your child.

The first day of school is Thursday, September 5, 2019.  Your child's class is listed on the label that was attached to this informational letter mailed to you in mid-August.  Their homeroom class is a three-digit number starting with 1 or 3.  On the first day of school, students will line up by class in the schoolyard on Purdy Street.  There will be staff members present to assist you.

School uniform shirts are available for purchase in person at the Kid's Place located at 1450 Metropolitan Avenue in Parkchester ($10 per shirt), or online at schoolbasics.com/ms127/ ($9 per shirt plus $5.95 shipping for the entire order).  You can also order shirts in person on the first day.

Students will receive class specific supply lists and course syllabi, as well as a student handbook and school-family contract at the beginning of the year.  All students should have four 2-inch binders or one large multi-section 3-ring binder, a packet of loose-leaf paper, six 2-pocket folders, four composition notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, post-its, a non-electric pencil sharpener, and a backpack.  If you need support with any of these items or school uniform, please contact Ms. Francis, the parent coordinator, at ext. 1003.

Meet the Teacher Night is Thursday, September 19, in the evening.  More details will follow in September.  In addition to meeting the teachers, this is an opportunity to meet the Parent Association and find out about opportunities to volunteer and participate in our school community.  I hope to see you then.

If you are interested in your child participating in the NY EDGE after-school program, you must attend the mandatory parent meeting on either September 5 or 6 from 3-6 pm.
